Dinner & Bowling - A group of 14 club members met up for dinner at the Swiss Chalet in Dieppe. Following dinner we headed to the bowling alley for some “glow in the dark” 10-pin fun. We formed two teams of men vs women. Of course, if it weren’t for the women keeping scores for both teams and abusing the handicap available, the men would have won…maybe. But what fun would that have been. And a big thank you to Angie & Roger for keeping the gutters clean. The challenge is out for next year to see if the men can really win fair and square.

MacDonald Pontiac Buick GMC Cadillac Ltd., Baig Blvd., Moncton, was the host of the annual corvette mania. This year, despite the threat of rain, participants brought out their magnificent toys for an array of corvettes ranging from a 1958 to a 2006. Everyone looks forward to this show each year as it is the first ‘all corvettes’ show to kick off the summer in the Atlantic Provinces.

River Valley Vettes from the Greater Fredericton area hosted their ‘fiberglass alley’ event. The Friday evening Saint John River boat cruise set the stage for a weekend of wonderful fellowship. On Saturday morning, our club met at Magnetic Hill, Moncton. The more than a dozen corvettes made the trip via the River Valley Scenic route and filled in the remainder of the parking spots on Queen St., Fredericton. It was a glorious day of sunshine and fiberglass. Alfred & Linda opened up their home and pool to those who were able to stay for the evening buffet and needed a rest area after the show. After a great meal, we played a few games to finish off the evening. Two couples from Moncton stayed overnight and took part in the morning breakfast at the Lord Beaverbrook hotel in the company of the Fredericton and US vetters. Another great show hosted by our River Valley friends !

July 6 -9, 2006

Atlantic Nationals, Moncton. Due to work commitments, not everyone was able to take part in the run to PEI on Thursday, but two couples from Moncton enjoyed the day among the 106 antiques, hot rods, corvettes and specialty cars that crossed the PEI bridge together. Of particular fun was the scavenger hunt set up by the Confederation Bridge promotion cruiser for the run back home. On Thursday evening the Atlantic Nationals hosted a BBQ, meet and greet, and movie at Centennial Park. Friday was an awesome day of parking downtown Moncton. With Main Street blocked to allow only the show participants’ vehicles and spectators on foot, it was one giant party. A rock and roll band played until early in the morning and the weather was wonderful. On Saturday, the GMCC members hosted their club show at Centennial Park, surrounded by the Atlantic Nationals, with 78 corvettes registering for the day. Recognition plaques were given out as follows: 53-62 to Raymond Harrison with a white ’58; 63-67 to Harvey & Beryl McAusland with a grey ’65; 68-72 to David Ronayne with a red ’71; 73-77 to Robert & Louise Gallant with an orange ’75 convertible; 78-82 to Mike Brown with his green ’79; 84-89 to James & Fran Good with a green ’95; 97-04 to Kelly Kelly with a red ’02 just acquired a week prior to the show; and 05-06 to Leon & Jocelyn Caissie with their red ’06. People’s choice went to Robert & Louise Gallant for the orange ’75 convertible. After the show 58 folks enjoyed a roast beef dinner at the Moncton Dart Club. Some still had enough energy to enjoy the Saturday night rock-n-roll party at the Moncton Coliseum. And then for those who were in for the long haul, we regrouped again on Sunday to enjoy the finale of the Atlantic Nationals at Centennial Park. What a weekend!!

July 20, 2006

trip to St. Martins. The day’s weather wasn’t promising but two brave couples made the trip from Moncton to St Martins. Those left behind wouldn’t have believed how beautiful the day was. You can see by the pictures that we aren’t kidding. Lots of vettes once we got there, thanks to our friends from Saint John and Fredericton. Once the show was done, parade and all, we headed over to the pink house for some goodies. We left St Martins at 7 p.m., and apparently in the nick of time, as the Turners told us that the sky opened up just after we left. We parked the cars back home dry, so how did we manage to miss the rain?

NS Corvette Show & Shine, Truro, NS. It was a hot, sunny day with 69 corvettes registered. A lot of different vettes this year. The Gabriel was a highlight, along with a Callaway that came all the way from New York specifically for the show in Truro. A lot of prizes and plaques were given out. We had a wonderful meal at the Capricorn with a photo shoot of most of the vettes before heading home. All in all it was a great day !

August 13th, 2006

Trip to Sackville and Fort Beausejour August 13th was our group photo in Beech Hill Park, Sackville. After the picnic and photo shoot, we headed for Fort Beausejour. The weather could have been a little more cooperative, but it was a nice drive just the same.

August 20th, 2006

Vettes in Grand Manan. On August 20th we departed for Grand Manan. Despite the threat of heavy rain, 5 corvettes crossed to join up with 2 more. The ferry crossing was absolutely wonderful, with a private tour of the captain’s work area. We got to see all his toys. We only ran into rain at our first stop, at the edge of the island. After that we were ok to enjoy the wonderful sights with our new friends from Grand Manan. Add a little eating, a little shopping, a tour of a dulse factory, and then more eating and the day was considered a success. Kelly even got to see the ashes. On the ferry trip home some had an opportunity to see a whale or two. Everyone was so pleased with the trip that plans are already in progress to repeat the day again in 2007.

August 27th, 2006

Sunday, August 27th, 15 corvettes participated in the annual lobster party, this year held at Pointe-du-Chene wharf in Shediac. More than enough to eat and lots of pretty corvette colors. After eating, we took a ride along the coastal route between Shediac and Richibucto, with a stop at the Richibucto wharf and another in Bouctouche. It was a great day

September 9 & 10, 2006

PEI Corvette Club show and shine. What a beautiful and fun weekend. There were 10 corvettes that made the crossing from NS to PEI via the Northumberland Ferry Limited. Once on the island, we were met by members of the PEI Corvette Club. Together we travelled to central location where we met those from Fredericton and Saint John, who had crossed via the Confederation Bridge. Together the 31 corvettes toured PEI. You can only imagine the site. It was such a sunny afternoon, that all the tops dropped/came off. We were given an opportunity to check into the hotels, then off to a BBQ, hosted by the PEI club members. Sunday didn't look promising in the morning, but as you can see by the photos, the sun eventually came out (at least there was no rain). I believe that 51 vettes registered for the show. One final run from the show to the restaurant allowed for us to take pictures until the cows came home. A wonderful meal ended the day, in the company of a restaurant full of friends (I believe 80 people). A great big THANK YOU goes out to Kingsley and his group of volunteers who made this weekend very enjoyable indeed

September 30th/October 1st, 2006

Trip to Caraquet, NB. We started and finished the weekend in sunshine. We drove along the Acadian Coastal route from Dieppe to Caraquet on Saturday, visiting Shippagan, Lameque and Miscou Island. Daniel & Karine were our hosts, being very familiar with the area, and knew of every little spot for fantastic photo shoots. Ten couples participated in the weekend frolic, including two couples from the Saint John club, Cyril/Jeanette and Ray/Kathleen. On Saturday evening, the restaurant across the parking lot from our hotel allowed us to take over their facility and so we finished the day with a dance party like no other. Wasn’t that a party !! The water was like a mirror on Sunday morning so off we went on a fishing expedition, organized once again by Daniel & Karine. As Cyril noted, Jeanette was totally hooked on the trip as she was credited with the catch of the day. We jigged until there were no more fish. Back to our vettes for a relaxing ride through Grand-Anse, Bathurst and Miramichi. We ran into a little car problem on the way home, but nothing the group couldn’t handle. It just added to the adventure and tuned the skills of our self-professed mechanics. When all was said and done, some participants requested that this be an annual event as it was the most fun we’ve had in a long time.

October 29, 2006

October 29, Sunday. We had 9 corvettes from our club, 1 corvette from Saint John, 1 corvette from Fredericton and 12 corvettes from Nova Scotia meet up in Amherst for lunch. We then headed along the Sunrise trail to our destination in Wallace where we were treated to a personal tour of the Fox Harbour golf resort. What a spot !! Then it was off to a NS club member's home just outside of Truro where we filled our bellies with lots of food and desserts. This was a combined trip organized by the GMCC and CCNS presidents. Thank you to Doug MacDonald of Moncton for making the arrangements for the tour.
